Dear John,
Happy Father's Day from US Wellness Meats! We appreciate the lessons and mentoring you pass on to your families coast to coast. Help Dad celebrate today by firing up the grill with Ono Charcoal and Grass-Fed Steaks and On Sale Ribs, which are sure to please.
The rain has not let up in Northeast Missouri this week, combined with high temperatures, it has left us with overly abundant pastures and happy cattle, as seen in the farm photos below.
On the political front, agriculture is being stalked be a new form of servitude under the guise of HR 2749 titled Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009. Go HERE to read the gory details and follow with common sense advise to your elected officials. Six key points addressed by the Farm-To-Consumer Legal Defense Fund are HERE. U.S. Wellness has contribuated to the Farm-To-Consumer Legal Defense Fund and sure hope we never need their services.
U.S. Wellness is pleased to introduce two unique new products this week. First is Sunny Acres Raw Honey- a pure, natural, never-heated honey from Sunny Acres bees near Arbela, MO. Raw honey will crystallize, while heated honey will stay in liquid form, thus losing the health benefits of the raw form. Second, is Albacore Tuna without added salt or oil for our salt free friends. This fresh tasting tuna is sustainably caught, has minimal mercury levels and is packed with omega-3s. Perfect for your favorite tuna salad recipe!
Be sure to check out the easy turkey meatloaf recipe towards the end of the news alert. Contributed by a loyal customer, it is a great use for our hormone/antibiotic free ground turkey, which is also on sale this week!
Best Father's Day Regards,
John, Lee Ann, Megan, Tressa and Jennifer

QUESTIONS TO: eathealthy@grasslandbeef.com
_____________________________________________
Dear Dr. Serrano,
I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which has recently been getting worse in spite of increasing my Levoxyl dose. I can't take any higher a dose now because it causes terrible episodes of tachycardia and insomnia so bad I have to take 75mg of Benadryl just to get some sleep.
Now my cholesterol, which was under control with diet, is through the roof, my cortisol levels are high, my blood sugar is erratic. Consequently, I'm craving carbs and I'm gaining weight again like I did when my thyroid first went bad.
In addition, my hair is falling out, my skin is desert-dry, my muscles hurt and feel like lead, I'm tired all the time, my brain is foggy, my short term memory is shot, and my stress tolerance is next to nothing, so my mood is volatile, to say the least.
I realize that trying to treat the thyroid as an isolated organ is futile, and I need to find valid information about thyroid dysfunction and how it's related to the rest of the body, but there is so much confusing and conflicting information out there. Can you direct me to reliable, accurate information I can bring to my doctor?
Thank You, T.D. Ansonia, CT

Dear T.D.:
I really feel bad because you must feel bad and without hope. I am going to try to help you because I actually see a lot of people in my office with thyroiditis.
Theresa, you must take this condition by the horns and control it, but it must be done slowly and you must make some sacrifices, the first one is diet control. Sorry, you are not going to get better without taking this first step. Patients with thyroiditis have food allergies, 100% of them have problems with certain foods and the three most common are dairy, wheat and eggs, so you must start by eliminating these foods or getting tested for it.
Now, you must also eliminate carbohydrates from your diet because it sounds like you are also having hypoglycemic events. To do that, your plate should have two servings of vegetables, one serving of protein and fat, including nuts, and occasionally certain fruits, which initially should be limited to grapefruit, avocados, lemons, berries, and tomatoes.
You must also have a lead, mercury, vitamin D, B12, boron, Tsh, free T3, free T4, cortisol, and DHEA levels checked.
I would also add alpha omega 3, (call scott at 614-596-7994) four per day for 7 days then 3 per day, and a product by standard process name of thytrophin PMG, take about 8 per day, and prolamine iodine, about three per day, on an empty stomach.
You must also talk to your doctor and let him know that it is not working for you and that you would like to change your dosage or medication to armour thyroid. I don't know what your dosage of levoxyl is, so I can't make any other recommendations, but I would immediately do that. In addition, your tachycardia can be leading to your hypoglycemic events and not your thyroid.
Theresa, if you don't make all these changes you will end up having surgery. By the way, the benadryl works, because it helps with your allergies.
Best regards,
Dr. Serrano
