Dear John,
Happy Halloween! It's hard to believe it is the end of October already, but Halloween is this Saturday. Make it a healthy Halloween for your Trick-Or-Treaters by stocking up on Organic Snacks this year. Our Tropical, Pecan, and Ginger Love Bites are certified organic and 100% raw, but more importantly they are delicious! Beware, once you have one you'll want to eat the whole bag!
We frequently get phone calls at the office asking how we raise our cattle, how often do they get fresh pasture, what do they eat, etc. We try to keep customers updated with new pasture photos every week, but this week we launched a video showing exactly what our cows do every day. They are moved to fresh pasture each evening, and are usually waiting by the gate for us to serve them dinner! Check out the video and the lush September pastures HERE. Be sure to leave any comments or questions, we love hearing customer feedback!
Are
you using an environmentally friendly laundry detergent? Maggie's Soap Nuts
are the only laundry soap that grows on trees, they are 100%
natural and can be used over and over. We were pleased to find that
the soap nuts made clothes come out of the wash perfectly clean. We
have had customers report they are perfect for those with the most
sensitive skin, and the re-usable pouch makes them easy to use. Now is
the perfect time to try them, all 3 sizes are on sale this week: small, large, and kilo. Turkey Update! Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and turkeys will soon be in stock! We will have plenty of South Carolina Free Range Turkeys, and a limited number of Heritage Free Range Turkeys in stock. To ensure delivery of your Thanksgiving turkey, please call the office toll-free (877) 383-0051 or email jen@grasslandbeef.com to put your name on the turkey list. Even
though it seems like a long ways off, Christmas will be here before we
know it. To reward early Christmas business shoppers, we will be offering a 10%
discount for any corporate business orders that are placed before November 25.
Simply call the office to discuss specifics and shipping preferences and receive
10% off the total purchase, or send us your request via email: jen@grasslandbeef.com. Our feature recipe this week- Tuna Salad Wrap, is super easy (and healthy!), and perfect for lunch or dinner on the go. The recipe includes Albacore Tuna, which is certified sustainable and cooked only once to preserve its fresh flavor, firm texture, and healthful omega-3s.

QUESTIONS TO: eathealthy@grasslandbeef.com
___________________________________________ Dear Dr. Serrano,
How come no one ever mentions grapeseed oil as a great alternative for cooking? It's at least as good if not better than olive oil and tastes wonderful too (assuming one is buying an expeller pressed organic product that is not overly filtered).
I've found it wonderful for cooking, and it's now the only one I use due to allergies to Olive Oil. You're so right about Canola--they renamed it for a reason--to confuse consumers into thinking it was good for you!!
In case no one else noticed, it seemed to me that Organic Canola Oil seemed to be everywhere, when it was nearly impossible to buy any organic oil for less than $15 for 8 ounces. Seriously. They had tons of it, and cheap, too--gee, wonder why?
Please answer about grapeseed oil- also, is the stuff in the cans OK to use compared to the bottles? One of my favorite brands recently switched, and I'm not happy, but don't feel safe using it without some input from an unbiased source.
Also, Spectrum had been a wonderful source of relatively low priced organic expeller pressed oils, but they went off the market for awhile, and now only part of the line has come back, and it's expensive. Anyone know anything about this? I'm assuming yet another takeover by a big business.
Jan K. Chicago, IL ___________________________________________
Dear Jan,
Great question and suggestions. Grapeseed oil is an oil that comes from grapes, but it is not used a lot because of cost and how little oil grapes have.
Jan, to answer your question I wouldn't use Grapeseed oil for cooking due to the high amounts of Omega-6, even though it has a high smoke point. When you heat omega-6's they still break down and don't do what they are supposed to do, and that is why I didn't mention it before you brought it up. I do agree it is an excellent choice for salads, and for supplementation of omega-6 and maybe to cook low temperature items.
One oil that I didn't mention that I would use is avocado oil, extremely high in omega-9 and actually tastes good, but again cost and availability make a difference.
Jan, by all means continue the usage of Grapeseed oil but again don't cook high temperatures items with it.
Thank you,
Dr. Serrano

What Our Customers Are Saying
|
Dear Grassland Family,
I recently got my order from you and I wanted to tell you that everything, the beef, pork, and chicken, was the most delicious meat I've ever had. I was apprehensive about ordering at first because, well to be perfectly frank, we're poor. My husband is active duty Army, so we had to save and scrounge to place an order but I'm happy to say it was worth every cent. Not only is it the healthiest meat we can possibly feed our children but it's so darn good too.
I have to admit though I was feeling a little guilty about my purchase, but then I got my first newsletter from US Wellness Meats. My husband asked me, "Why is a food company writing about health?" He didn't ask to be patronizing, to him it was surprising because we'd only ever heard of one other food company, Vital Choice to be exact, that distributes such informative articles on health.
Then it occured to me that the folks at US Wellness actually care about the health of their customers. So not only are your products delicious, but they're healthy, and to top it all off you care about your customers! Well my guilt is gone! Though we might have to sacrifice and won't be able to purchase your products as often as we'd like to I want you to know that you have found a forever customer!
