Dear John,
The first days of August are often met with sighs of summer boredom or anxious thoughts of the upcoming school year. Perhaps there is a realization of projects, plans and trips that will have to wait until next year. Or maybe there has been such a constant flurry of activity that a lazy afternoon sounds just perfect. However you are spending your time, we hope you can make the most out of these fleeting days of summer by firing up the grill and taking advantage of the warm summer weather!
Since August is National Native American Indian heritage month, we thought it would be a perfect time to talk about Pemmican - a major staple of the Native American Indian diet. What is Pemmican exactly? Our Pemmican bars are a mixture of dried beef jerky, beef tallow, sea salt, dried cherries and raw honey. We also have a honey/cherry free version, and due to customer demand we now have a salt free bar. These Pemmican bars are widely popular with many of our weightlifting and bodybuilding customers, as well as those on a Paleo diet, or people needing a super-healthy protein snack any time of day! We get more customer questions about Pemmican than any other product, so to help answer some of the most common questions, visit our latest blog page! If you have never tried Pemmican before, now is a great time to add a bar to your next order because our two best selling varieties are on sale this week.
Since fish was also an important part of many Native American diets, we have featured a tasty Spanish Fish recipe in our recipe section this week. The zesty vegetables cooked with tender halibut make this recipe one of our favorites!
Good news for fish oil fans: a recent Vital Cohort Study reported in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Journal showed that taking fish oil supplements could potentially lower the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. Read the full report for more information. We are very fortunate to be able to stock a pure, wild caught Alaskan Sockeye Salmon fish oil. This high quality fish oil is full of vitamins and omega 3's. If you are looking to boost Vitamin D3 levels, try our Vitamin D3 capsules in a base of wild Sockeye Salmon Oil. Both are certified sustainable and come from wild caught Alaskan Sockeye Salmon.
Do you know someone who is a need of a health transformation? In need of a new diet plan or suffering from an eating disorder? Our friend Kat James' program Total Transformation, is one we highly recommend. Kat welcomes groups into her breathtaking mountaintop chalet where she will cook with only the best organic, grass-fed and local ingredients and teach participants how to continue the healthy eating plan once they leave the retreat. While there, participants enjoy spa treatment, makeovers and a photo shoot, as well as visits to local national landmarks. Her program has helped hundreds of people transform their health and their lives. Visit her site for more information on the upcoming program August 13-18.

Dear Dr. Serrano,
I took the advice you generously gave in one of the US Wellness newsletters and started taking Innate Food Multi IV and am very happy. Thank you! Now I'm searching for a multi vitamin and multi mineral for my children. We have overall healthy diets full of grass-fed meats, pastured eggs, organic veggies, organic fruits, occasionally take fermented cod liver oil, and get healthy amounts of sun and exercise. Do you think that they need any supplementation? Our boys are 5 and 7 and are not able to swallow a tablet or capsule.
Thank you for your time and expertise! Whitney L.

Dear Whitney,
Thank you for your feedback and yes, I have a recommendation for you. You might have to buy it through your physician or call Scott at (614) 596-7994 and ask for Catalyn Chewables. Your five year old needs about 3 per day and the 7 year old needs about 5 per day.
They taste good and they are also organic and food based. I am impressed at how incredible you are with your family.
Thank You,
Dr. Serrano
