Dear John,
We received our first snowfall this week, along with sub-zero temperatures and
plummeting windchills! But we are still excited for the holidays, and are looking forward to temperatures close to 30 degrees this weekend.
If all this cold weather has you down with a cold, or if you are trying to protect your family from getting one - chicken soup is one of the best things you can eat. Homemade chicken broth made from free range chickens is an important part of any chicken soup recipe. According to Jewish folklore "the addition of chicken feet is the secret to successful broth." Lucky for you, our Free Range Chicken Feet are on sale this week - an event that doesn't happen very often due to the scarcity of this product, so now is a great time to stock up for your winter-soup-making! For more hints and tips on making a successful broth, read the Weston A. Price post Broth is Beautiful.
It's not too late for holiday shipping - at no additional cost! Our shipping is always free and Wednesday is the last day we will ship this week. So don't delay - place your order now to ensure delivery before the Christmas weekend!
Still need a few last-minute Christmas gifts? No worries, our Gourmet Gift Pack or Beef Variety Sampler make great gifts, and we can ship right to the recipient. If you'd rather let them choose, send them a handy US Wellness Gift Certificate.
We are still watching S 510, which is still alive in the Senate. The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund is constantly updating the status of this scary piece of legislature. Visit their site for the latest details, and remember to talk to your local representatives about the potential dangers this could cause to our food supply - and our freedom of choosing where our food comes from and how it is raised.
Looking for a healthy stocking stuffer? Macadamia Nuts are some of the tastiest treats we have on our menu but they are slightly addicting - once you have one you'll want to eat the whole bag! According to WebMD, the high-fat Macadamia Nut can help improve cholesterol levels, due to its high level of oleic acid. Jonny Bowden agrees - in his book, the 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth, he also tells us that "the oil in macadamia nuts is more than 80% monounsaturated, higher than any other nut." Monounsaturated fat is an important staple in the heart-healthy Mediterranean diet. So for a heart-healthy snack, either at work, while traveling, or as an appetizer, add a bag of Macadamia Nuts to your next order!
We would like to apologize to any customers who encountered our website down on Tuesday evening, December 14. We experienced some technical difficulties beyond our control, and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
US Wellness Trivia Contest! We will randomly draw 30 winners who email the correct answer on Sunday, December 19. Promo codes will be emailed on Monday morning and will be active for 30 days. This week's question: "How many inches in diameter was the largest snowflake ever recorded" Please email your answers to blog@grasslandbeef.com. Thanks to all who have been participating in our Trivia Contests! In the last news alert, we asked: How many days 'rest' does each paddock get before the cattle return to it? The answer was: 30 days.
Happy Holidays,
John, Lee Ann, Megan, Tressa, Jennifer and Amanda on behalf of the farm families of U.S. Wellness Meats

Dear Dr. Serrano,
What's the difference between the Alpha Omega 3 & the Sockeye Salmon Oil Softgels? Is one better than the other? And what do you think of Krill Oil Softgels?
Thanks, Bob
_________________________________________
Dear Bob,
Alpha Omega 3 was my creation, it is not only fish oils but what I think is one of the best balanced fat formulas. The body not only needs polyunsaturated fats or saturated fats, but also monounsaturated fats and the only way to provide them is with a combination of different sources. These include CLA from butter, organic olive oil, GLA from borage oil, low dose alpha linolenic acid from organic flax seed oil (because it is still essential at low dosages) and finally fish oils.
All these fats are included in Alpha Omega 3, which no other manufacturer has on the market. The krill oil has something that mine doesn't have - phospholipids, which are a type of fat required for the cell, and are found in organ meats and eggs.
I don't know what the need or dosages are required but I know they are important. Each product is unique, and I do make money when you buy Alpha Omega 3, but it is also the one I give my kids and that says a lot about my product. I have also used it with patients but have never advertised anywhere, and it sells like crazy, because it works.
John, if I had the money to spend without any regrets I would buy both and take krill oil at least five times per week, but the alpha omega you could take everyday.
I also want you to compare the label and check what the cost would be if you bought each oil separately, and the best way to find out what works is to try each product for two months and please let me know your results.
Good luck,
Dr. Serrano

Almond-Crusted Pork Loin
Ingredients:
Salsa:
- 2 medium tomatoes, diced
- 1/2 cup diced red onion
- 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a roasting pan with foil and place a meat rack on the foil. Coat with butter.
- Coarsely grind almonds in a food processor. Mix almonds, garlic and salt and pepper to taste in a bowl. Set aside.
- Whip egg whites to form soft peaks. Remove visible fat from the pork. Roll the pork in the egg whites and then in the almond mixture. Roll once more in the egg whites and in the almond mixture again. Place pork on the rack and press any remaining almonds onto the pork.

Customer Feedback |
I recently placed an order for beef bacon, head cheese, and salt/sugar free pemmican, and am writing to inform you that I absolutely LOVE them all. The pemmican bar I found to be fantastic with a bit of raw goat cheese, as well as with nuts (I actually dipped it in almond butter) Perhaps you might offer some with these ingredients mixed in, I would certainly pay for it. The head cheese reminded me of the smoked sausages I used to get at the store, but without the overpowering saltiness, and, of course, none of the toxic fillers. All in all, I am extremely happy with your products. Darrell |
