Dear John,
We're off to a busy start for the month of November here at US Wellness Meats. We will be traveling to Long Island, NY this weekend for the Navel Expo, so if you are in the area please stop by! Next week we are looking forward to the Weston A. Price Convention in King of Prussia, PA. If you have never been, this year's conference should be one of the best. The theme this year - The Politics of Food, will address many of the challenging issues currently facing our food supply.
Don't forget to "fall back" for daylight savings time today, Sunday November 7. This practice has been around since the early 1900's, when they started 'saving daylight hours' by moving clocks back in order to enjoy more afternoon sunlight. As we transition back to standard time, we will be enjoying brighter mornings here in Northeast Missouri.
With less daylight hours, it means winter is certainly approaching, and this means holiday shopping season is upon us. Make it easy on yourself this year by getting your shopping done in advance. US Wellness Gift Certificates make the perfect gift. We mail them directly to you and they make great stocking stuffers or make a great addition to Christmas cards. Millions of people make New Year's resolutions to lose weight each year - help out your loved ones who need to get in better shape by giving the gift of good health!
For a great Christmas or Thanksgiving surprise, send your favorite relatives our Gourmet Gift Pack. Filled with our best selling steaks, roasts, burger and brisket this gift pack has something for everyone in the family!
It's not too late for an end-of-season BBQ! Our favorite T-Bone Steaks are on sale this week along with All-Natural Ono Charcoal. This makes the perfect combination for weekend barbecuing or tailgating!
This week our thoughts and prayers go out to all Veterans, who we especially remember on Veteran's Day, this Thursday, November 11. We salute you for your service to our country, and we thank all former and current service men and women for bravely protecting our freedom. One of the greatest freedoms a country can offer its citizens is the right to vote, which we all took advantage of just last week. We should all thank a soldier for protecting that right. Please remember to keep our Wounded Warriors in your thoughts and prayers as the War on Terror continues in the Middle East.
US Wellness Trivia Contest! Trivia Update! Instead of limiting the 15% promo code to the first 30 responders, we will randomly draw 30 winners who email the correct answer on Sunday, November 7. Promo codes will be emailed on Monday morning and will be active for 30 days. This week's question: "What is the longest river in the US?" Please email your answers to blog@grasslandbeef.com. Thanks to all who have been participating in our Trivia Contests! In the last news alert, we asked: What was the first genetically modified whole food to be sold commercially? The answer was: the Flavr Savr Tomato.
Best Autumn Regards,
John, Lee Ann, Megan, Tressa, and Jennifer, on behalf of the farm families of U.S. Wellness Meats

Dr. Serrano,
This question is preemptive in nature. If someone is diagnosed with Deep Vein Thrombosis are there alternative options to using the typical anti-coagulant drugs Heparin and Warfarin? If they really do need to be taken is there something that can be taken to deal with any side effects ans such. I really am not familiar with all the potential issues but I am familiar with what seems to be a cascading effect of drug side effects and then taking other drugs to deal with those.
I realize there are different degrees of severity and hope you would comment in light of those varying degrees. It is so hard to find information out there on alternative protocols if available and if they do not put one at additional risk.
Thanks so much, Marc ___________________________________________
Dear Marc,
You are correct, I can't make any suggestions in this case but I can give some guidelines for proper health:
1. Depending on the condition, it might be necessary to take the Coumadin (Warfarin) or Heparin
2. Heparin is much safer because it can be stopped quickly and is actually made in the body
3. Coumadin is a rat poison, but used for anticoagulation in certain conditions, and is sometimes necessary for people with Pulmonary Embolism or Atrial Fibrillation
4. Because of the risk of malpractice your physician will not recommend you to stop taking your medication
5. If you have allergies to any of the above, then you should never take them, and if DVT without complications you can try something else, if not spreading or causing severe pain
6. Nattokinase, fish oils, aspirin and lumbrikinase, are some of the recommended natural anticoagulants
7. They do work but you must make sure that you get real products from reputable companies and take dosages depending on the situation
8. The greatest reasons for clots are:
- dehydration
- inactivity
- poor diet
- trauma
- medical conditions such as infections, tumors, diabetes, or metabolic complications
- genetic defect
- medications
9. I hope that my generic guidelines help you with some of your questions.
Thank You and Good Luck,
Dr. Serrano

What Our Customers Are Saying

Hi Everyone, I know I've written to thank you a couple of times. But I wanted to tell you that in seven months, I have lost enough weight to go down two pant sizes. Your beef and chicken are, along with organic, low carbohydrate vegetables, what I eat. My blood sugar has stabilized (I'm hypoglycemic), my depression is gone, I am beginning to have more energy than I've had in years (it's almost scary). Thank you again and again for the products you sell. I mention you every time I talk about food. Many, many thanks, Janet |
