Ecosystem Stress
Have you ever considered yourself an ecosystem? Normally, we think of some place in nature, but we are part of nature too. In short, an ecosystem is a community of living organisms interacting with eachother and their physical environment. So, you can look in the mirror and say "hello" to your very local ecosystem! Our bodies are full of living cells, bacteria, and all sorts of microscopic organisms. Some are healthy, while others might not be so healthy. Some of these micro organisms are good for us and others not so good. In order to keep ourselves healthy, we need to find a balance with our body. It's important to consider the factors that effect this balance: nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, injury, sickness, foreign matter, environment, etc. When we're sick, something is off balance. When we're stressed out or feeling tired, something is off balance. In order to find out what, we have to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us. Are we getting enough sleep and exercise? Is our diet right for our bodies? The human gut is home to a wide range of bacteria estimated to number around 100 Trillion. That's a lot of critters. More studies are showing the importance of keeping balance or harmony in the gut so that the bad guys don't overthrow the good guys. It behooves us to do our best to keep this ecosystem healthy.
As farm families, US Wellness takes to heart the conditions effecting ecosystems on the farm and in our bodies. Nutrition is an important part of good food and it comes from healthy soils. Like our guts, the soils are also a community of trillions of micro organisms. While parts of the world are struggling with large sections turning into deserts, other areas are focusing on regenerative farming methods to reverse that process and heal the lands. We're not immune to desertification here in America. It's not been that long ago when large swaths of the plains suffered under Dust Bowl conditions. Thoughtful stewardship and a reverence for the land, water, animals, and natural resources encourages a return to balance with nature. Thank you for supporting sustainable family farms with your purchase decisions. Together we can ensure our children and grandchildren have nutritious food, rich soils, clean water and air.
