Happy St. Patrick's Day
We want to take a moment to wish you a happy St. Patrick's Day! Whether you are planning a St. Patrick's Day feast or a low-key dinner, we hope you are enjoying the taste of traditional Irish-American fare. One dish that comes to mind is Corned Beef. Corned Beef has a unique history and one that surprisingly begins in America. The dish came about when Irish-Americans transformed a tradition imported from the Emerald Isle. In Ireland, pork was the preferred meat, but when Irish immigrants arrived in America, pork was an expensive option for many immigrant families. These families adapted their recipes to include a cheaper and popular protein in America, Beef! So the traditional Irish meal of Pork and Potatoes became the Irish-American dish of Corned Beef and Cabbage.
A few of our favorite holiday recipes can be found on the Discover Blog, including Corned Beef Hash and the traditional Corned Beef with Cabbage. These recipes do not have to be reserved just for St. Patrick's Day.... they are delicious year-round!
