Stay Warm From the Inside Out
Have you ever wondered why some people seem to always be cold regardless of how warm it is? We're all warm-blooded, but there are some reasons for differences in our temperature. The extremities are usually the first to feel cold - hands and feet. Outside of some health disorder or sickness, there are a few reasons why you might feel cold. Did you know that muscle helps generate heat for the body and fat helps insulate? If you've lost muscle mass recently, a little exercise might help bring back the warmth. It's relatively normal for women and the elderly to have lower muscle mass, so it's a possible explanation if that describes you. For those who have taken off some weight, you may have given up some insulation too. We carry around a blanket of sorts in the form of a fat layer. There isn't as much to hold in the heat when that is reduced. It's also possible that you're slightly deficient in vitamin B12 or iron. If you think that might be the case, a visit to your family doctor could be in order. Meats, fish, and dairy all have good levels of B-vitamins. Have you considered adding some organ meats to your diet? It doesn't take much to boost your nourishment with these superfoods.
Vegetarians and Vegans have a special challenge when it comes to getting proper nutrition, especially B-Vitamins. B-vitamins are essential for DNA and RNA health and many other cellular functions. If you aren't getting B-vitamins from meat products, you need to get it in supplement form. See Ashley Martens's article this week for ways to stay toasty warm during the cold winter months.

Wellness Feature | Nutrient Absorption With Kelley Herring
When it comes to health and nutrition, we've all heard the phrase, "You are what you eat." And this is true… to an extent. However, it's more accurate to say, "You are not only what you eat… but, rather, what you absorb." Read more about absorption with Kelley Herring's two eye-opening features, Maximizing Absorption Part One and Six Ways to Boost Nutrient Absorption Part Two.
Know Your Farmer | Crane's Farmhouse and Missouri Pastures
While not everyone has an opportunity to farm their own food, you do have the chance to know your farmer. At US Wellness Meats, we encourage our patrons to know where their food is produced. With each order from grasslandbeef.com, you can be sure your meat was raised on family farms that follow organic husbandry practices that are good for the land, the animals, and our nutrition. Our president and lead farmer, John Wood, gives weekly updates straight from our pastures (Today's is at the bottom of this email). While most of our patrons live outside Missouri, you can virtually visit our farms through our YouTube or the Discover Blog. This motto is equally as important for our restaurant partners! Our restaurant partners source items they know they can trust to be raised humanely and taste delicious for their customers. One local partner, Crane's Farmhouse, is one of these incredible restaurants. Customers enjoy a delightful meal at Crane's, with meat sourced on farms less than an hour away! An authentic farm-to-table experience that you can achieve yourself with our grass-fed and pasture-raised products.
