The Nutritional Dollar
Have you ever considered how much your nutritional dollar is worth? Most people are thinking more about how far their dollar is going nowadays. How would we calculate the value of food? As consumers, we all make choices and want to know the value of our purchases. Let's consider some factors. How much weight do we give to quality, price, short and long-term health effects, environmental impact, trust, and confidence in the producer? If you're buying a vehicle or house, that's a significant investment and usually requires considerable deliberation. Isn't your health just as important as what car you're driving, though? The human body will run on all sorts of food, even junk food. But, at some point, poor fuel quality catches up with us. If we get our calories primarily from artificial foods, our bodies will eventually become malnourished. Unfortunately, that's not the worst of it. Over time, ultra-processed foods can be corrosive to our bodies resulting in chronic health problems. There's an old saying, "food can either be a powerful medicine or the slowest form of poison.”
The typical western diet includes far too much sugar, far too many fake ingredients, and way too many bad fats. Add to this a sedentary lifestyle resulting in too little physical activity for many, and we end up with autoimmune illnesses, diabetes, cancers, and heart disease on the rise. Now, let's look at the value of ultra-processed fake foods. Sickness is expensive. When considering pros and cons, processed foods look much more costly, and all-natural, whole foods look much less expensive. Take control of your diet and skip the center aisles at the grocery store. Focus on foods that are as close to nature as possible. Select foods that have fewer ingredients. Choose fruits, veggies, and proteins raised from rich soils. Grow some of your own veggies with a garden. Just like you'd want to know who built the car or house you're looking at, and the quality of materials they used, you also want to know who your farmer is and how they raise the food you eat. Find out why regenerative farming is better for the planet and your body.
