Sweet Treats are Sweeter in Moderation
Sweet "treats" used to be just that...occasional indulgences. Now, nearly everything in the grocery store comes with added sugars or sweeteners. Sugar is extremely addictive and consuming even a little bit can make us crave more. Big food companies know this and have gradually increased the usage of sweeteners in their products to make them more appealing. Did you know that the average American consumes well over 100 pounds of sugar and sweeteners each year? Back in the early 1900s, that number was around 17 pounds per year. It's hardly an occasional indulgence anymore. Sugar-laden foods are not just empty calories either. Sugar has been linked to numerous health-related problems including Type 2 Diabetes, dementia, malnutrition, liver disease, various cancers, immune system suppression, heart disease, gout, and the list goes on.
Humans are creatures of habit, but habits can be changed and it's never too late to make better food choices. If you fall into the category mentioned above, it might be time to consider a more nutritious ancestral-style diet. Instead of reaching for a donut, fast food, or sugary drink, try delicious all-natural alternatives that have health-building nutrients instead of sugar and chemical additives. Consider the long-term consequences of food choices. Visit with a health coach for encouragement, or take the challenge with a friend or loved one. Save yourself some worry and expense later by eating healthy today.
This week our Ancestral Food category celebrates these tried and true products that have fueled humans for generations. Browse items such as Beef Braunschweiger, New York Strip Steak, Ground Bison, and Lamb Marrow Bones. Enjoy 15% off products in this category until Saturday, May 14.

Metabolic Health Summit | Great Food + Metabolic Research
Our team just wrapped up a fun-filled weekend attending the 2022 Metabolic Health Summit in sunny Santa Barbara, California. We had the opportunity to connect with so many of our current patrons in person and add some new ones to our high-quality meat-loving family. Allowing newcomers to taste test our products is always a special opportunity. At this year's summit, we sampled Liverwurst, Braunschweiger, New York Stip, Pemmican, Adobo Meatballs, Beef Ribeye, Beef Sliders, Leg of Lamb Steak, and Sugar-Free Pork Bacon. It was great to see so many smiling faces enjoying great food and the latest research in metabolic health.
Shout Out | Yummy Paleo Burger
You can't go wrong with a burger utilizing a high-quality ground beef patty. Patron Ellen J. takes a classic up a notch with a grass-fed patty paired with a Paleo bun, avocado, and pickles. Of course, a burger needs fries! Ellen included parsnip fries with this dish. Thank you for sharing this yummy creation with us.
