Nourish, Move, Rest
What simple things can we do to improve our health and wellness… AND increase longevity? Developing healthy habits are certainly a big part of the picture, and there seem to be three essential aspects to accomplishing these goals:
1. Nutrition - It’s all about what we put into our bodies. We recommend clean, whole, healthy foods with plenty of vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, and nutrients. Organically raised vegetables and fruits and holistically raised grass-fed and pasture-raised animal proteins are vital to building, repairing, and fueling the human body. Ultra-processed foods tend to be loaded with the wrong things (chemicals, GMOs, sugars, and numerous questionable ingredients) and lacking in what the body needs.
2. Exercise - Many Americans don't even get minimal physical activity in their days, let alone what is recommended. Most healthcare advisors seem to suggest between 150 minutes - 300 minutes of moderate exercise per week. Health features on new tech watches and smartphones allow us to monitor our daily progress. For some, this is a helpful reminder to move more. See Scott Mendelson's article in today's issue for more guidance on exercise and training.
3. Sleep - This one is often overlooked as long days turn into short nights, but it's equally important. Modern Americans can too often burn the candle at both ends, making it tricky to get this right. The recommendations vary and tend to be based on age, but there can be other factors too. Diet and exercise can also have an effect here.
Get one of these areas out of whack, and it can throw your body's balance off. Because every body is different, it's challenging to put standards or across-the-board recommendations on any of these. Find the balance of nutrition, fitness, and sleep that fits your body and lifestyle. When you find your body responds positively to a healthy routine, make notes and try to stick with it.
Lifestyle Feature | Exercises for Lean Muscle Mass
When it comes to building lean muscle, multiple components come into play. Some of the factors involved in building muscle include nutrition, recovery, sleep, a good program, and of course, your exercises of choice. No matter what kind of lifestyle you may lead, adding resistance training and other types of physical activity are sure to add some health benefits to the overall quality of your life.
