Fruits of Labor
It's November! You've probably noticed that it's cooling down outside. Temperatures all over the country are beginning to show signs of an approaching winter. Historically, this is the time of year when family's gathered to celebrate the harvest, feast, and fellowship. This is where the idea of Thanksgiving came from. After months of seeding, weeding, feeding, and tending crops and animals for food, it was time to celebrate and enjoy the fruits of these labors. Winters could be rugged and food had to last. They didn't have a grocery store or online shopping with home delivery. If you've ever worked on a farm or tended a garden, you know that there's a lot of blood, sweat and tears that go along with the job. You may have grandparents or great-grandparents who described these times with a bit of sentimentality. Surviving and thriving was hard work for our ancestors, but that work created a sense of strength in community and character that is sometimes difficult to capture today. While the modern conveniences we enjoy are certainly appreciated, sometimes the toil and perseverance of our ancestors is taken for granted. Our grandparents worked hard to make a better future for us.
Throughout this harvest and holiday season, let's remember those that came before us and the work they did to secure a future for our generations. While we can't rest on their laurels, we can raise a glass in toast to their accomplishments and ours during the last year. Cheers!
Well Wishes, Team USWM
