Back in the mid-1990's, several midwest farm families joined forces and made a commitment to convert their farms to sustainable land management with an emphasis on Grass-fed, Grass-finished cattle. They chose to go against the grain...literally. The results of those efforts have been dramatic. Our farms have been raising animals and building soil for nearly three decades. Below soil life is vitally important to growing healthy grasses that nourish our cattle. Good soils allow plants to extend roots deeper to extract nutrients and also to pull carbon deeper into the soil where it can be turned into food for underground critters.
In this short video, John Wood explains the various types of plants that provide protein, energy, and healthy mass to our animals. John is the managing partner of US Wellness Meats and a 5th generation cattle farmer. His son Johnny is carrying on the tradition by raising 100% grass-fed lambs for US Wellness Meats. Johnny recently hosted a Young Cattlemen/Cattlewomen's group at the farm where young people learned more about the business side of farming.
