Ye olde English term for breakfast is "Morgenmete" or "Morning Meal". Breakfasts have unfortunately become the forgotten meal of the day. It's easy to forget breakfast or turn it into a quickie sugar boost, especially for those busy work mornings. Many of us are practicing interval fasting which often means breakfast gets cut out. So, with busy schedules taking priority and donuts, bagels, fast food breakfast sandwiches, and smoothies, being so quick and convenient, it's no wonder healthy breakfasts are relegated to a distant memory for many. The term "breakfast" actually comes from the idea of "breaking a fast".
While we sleep, we're fasting. Our bodies use this time to renew and reinvigorate, heal, detoxify, and rest. All important functions the body performs to maintain good health. Once the fast is over and we're ready for a new day, breakfast is the meal that gives us the initial boost of energy. While it may take time to prepare a more nutrient dense breakfast, that time is well spent if it means we're burning cleaner, healthier fuel. If you find yourself feeling sluggish by mid-morning, it could be that you have too much sugar in the tank. Ask a mechanic if sugar in your car improves it's performance. Quick answer - it doesn't! It can clog your fuel lines though, or worse.
Too much sugar in the human body can lead to all sorts of issues.
If you can't spare the time to prepare a healthy breakfast during the week, weekends are the perfect time to enjoy a leisurely, delicious and nutritious breakfast. A hearty, old-fashioned weekend breakfast can become something the whole family looks forward to. If you're looking for some good ideas for a
