By the Numbers...
The world consumes a lot of meat. Some places more than others. If you study the list of nations that eat more, and those that eat less, it's fairly easy to predict. There's quite a disparity in the numbers. The 3 largest countries by population, India (1.44 Billion), China (1.42 Billion), and the United States of America (341 million) consume wildly different amounts of meat. Indians consume on average less than 7 pounds of meat per year. That's just 1/3 ounce of meat per day or a little over 2 ounces per week. India has the lowest per capita meat consumption. Of course, nearly 40% of Indians consider themselves vegetarian. Per capita consumption in China is around 100 lbs per year or 4.38 ounces per day. While in the U.S., we consume approximately 264 lbs per person, per year or 11.57 ounces per day.
There has been a big push by global "planners" to limit meat production and meat consumption, and to replace it with lab created protein that resembles meat, bugs, or plant-based products that look like meat. This plan hasn't been all that successful here in the states...yet. Studies indicate the primary factor that influences meat consumption is income per capita. Not a huge big surprise. It is telling that the world's lowest per capita meat consumers tend to be the poorest per capita nations on earth, while the wealthiest per capita eat more meat.
The world's most widely eaten meats are: 1) Pork-36% 2) Poultry-33% 3) Beef-24%. Of course, that varies by region and country. Goat/Sheep/Lamb comes in at 5%, but in places like Mongolia it tops the charts for favorite meats. Here in the U.S., Poultry is #1, followed by Beef and Pork.
