The Legend of St. Patrick
Like so many other holidays, Saint Patrick's Day traditions abound. Historians have poured over ancient texts to find details about the man who came to be known as St. Patrick. It's a colorful history but not really complete. The holes have been filled in by stories and legends told over hundreds of years. He was born in Britain during the time of Roman rule and while no date of birth is confirmed, it is thought that he was abducted to Ireland by a band of pirates and sold into slavery when he was just a teenager. After six years, he was able to flee captivity and made his way back to Britain where he continued his studies. Saint Patrick decided to return to Ireland as a missionary to preach to the people there. March 17 has been recorded as the day he died, but the exact year is unknown. There seems to be some agreement that it was mid-to-late fifth century.
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in more countries than any other national holiday. The Emerald Isle is home to nearly 7 million Irish, but there are an estimated 80 million people with Irish ancestry worldwide. The U.S. has around 36 million. That's probably why the day has become so popular. Besides, who wants to miss an opportunity to enjoy traditional Irish-American fare? Speaking of delicious St. Patrick's Day food, our Corned Beef Brisket is made in-house with all-natural ingredients. Most corned beef recipes today include nitrates as a preservative. That's what gives the meat an unusual pinkish color. Since there is concern regarding the health effects of nitrates, US Wellness corned beef has a special all-natural recipe brine that is nitrate/nitrite free. Our clean recipe has the following ingredients: 100% grass-fed beef, water, sea salt, garlic powder, nutmeg, coriander, citric acid, and natural pickling spices (clove, cinnamon, allspice). If you prefer to prepare your owned corned beef, start with the best ingredients: USWM 100% Grass-fed Beef Brisket, ready for your favorite recipe.
