Dear John,
We hope this week's newsletter finds you in warmer weather than we are! Northeast Missouri has been below freezing for almost two weeks now, but luckily no snow yet. Cattle are still on pasture and the cold weather doesn't seem to faze them one bit - see for yourself in our farm photos below. The cold weather reminds us that the holiday season is in full swing. Don't take the risk of a late Christmas gift, or worse yet a missing holiday meal! Order this week to ensure delivery before Christmas Eve which is only a week from Friday. We have corporate gift boxes available that can include any combination of products. Simply call the office toll-free at (877) 383-0051 to set up your order. Or, check out our Steak Gift Box and selection of gift certificates. Are you trying to get your family turned onto grass-fed meats? Want to give them the gift of good health this year but not sure where to start? Visit our blog for an easy gift-giving guide that has lots of great gift ideas for anybody on your list! Looking for a healthy protein shake? Look no further. We were finally able to source a whey protein product that uses milk from grass-fed cattle that graze on grasses free of pesticides and chemicals. All-natural Vital Whey Protein in Rich Chocolate and Creamy Vanilla is now available in the US Wellness store. If you are an athlete looking for a high quality post-workout protein boost, this is your drink for improved muscle strength. If you are looking for a healthy after-school snack for your kids, this is it. It will help with overall health and energy levels, provides all the essential amino acids in correct balance, and has a whopping 15 grams protein per serving. Not only that, but it tastes good too! Why Butter is Better! Dr. Mercola agrees with the Weston A. Price Foundation that butter from grass-fed cows is full of health benefits that can help prevent some of the most common diseases in America today, such as heart disease, cancer and obesity. Read his full article for all the details, and don't forget to add a pound of Organic, Grass-Fed Butter to your next order! We have a new video featuring our own Kenneth Suter receiving the 2010 Ag Educators Lifetime Achievement Award. Check out our blog for all the details and watch the video to learn more about one of our founding farmers, and the impact he has had on the grazing industry. Food safety update! The House passed the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act by a slim margin last week. S 510 was passed as an amendment to HR 3082 (the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act), and is now headed to the Senate for their vote. It is very important for us to contact our Senators and tell them how important this act is. We are worried that it will impose strict, unnecessary regulations on small scale and local farmers, thus raising their already high overhead costs, while not addressing the main food contamination problems in our country today. How can you help? Simply sign the petition to voice your opinion. Are you a fan on Facebook yet? Join today to stay updated on all the latest US Wellness updates, sales and events! High-Protein, Low-GI Diet Wins Weight Loss Test Which diet is the most effective for shedding weight? According to Danish researchers who have just completed the world's largest study into diet and weight loss, one that is high in proteins with less starch calories is the optimum way to lose weight and maintain a healthy BMI. The large-scale study, involving eight European research centers, investigated the optimum diet composition for preventing and treating obesity. The results, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, show that the best way to avoid counting calories and gaining weight was to eat less white bread and white rice, and more lean meat, low-fat dairy products and beans. The study evaluated five diet types:
- A low-protein diet (13% of energy consumed) with a high glycemic index (GI)
- A low-protein, low-GI diet
- A high-protein (25% of energy consumed), low-GI diet
- A high-protein, high-GI diet
- A control group
The study participants in the low-protein/high-GI group showed the poorest results with a significant weight gain of 1.67 kg. The weight gain was 0.93 kg less for participants on a high-protein diet than for those on a low-protein diet and 0.95 kg less in the groups on a low-GI diet compared to those on a high-GI diet. The researchers conclude that a diet consisting of slightly higher protein content and low-GI foods represents the best option for overweight people to lose weight and maintain a healthy BMI. Catherine's Comment by Catherine Ebeling, RN BSN |
Help to Heal Your BrainThe pharmaceutical companies are making massive amounts of money, especially when it comes to the treatment of mood and behavioral disorders. Record numbers of people turn to medication for psychiatric medications. Medical treatments for depression, autism, attention deficit disorder, insomnia, eating disorders, learning disabilities, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, bipolar, and dementia are huge and growing every day. Along with that, there are also disorders that are not always classified as a treatable disease, but disabling nonetheless. These include chronic stress, brain fog, anger, mood swings, sleep issues, irritability, memory loss and more. It's the 'invisible epidemic' that affects 1.1 billion people worldwide and 1 out of 6 children. What if the cure for brain disorders is not with the brain, as conventional medical professionals think, but in the body? What if mood, memory, attention, behavior problems, and most other brain diseases have their root cause in the body's systems? Perhaps the conventional medical approach to dealing with brain disorders is totally backwards. Doctors used to speak of the 'blood/brain' barrier in terms of medications, toxins, foods, etc. The premise was that many things we ingested or that our bodies were exposed to, do not cross that barrier to the brain. Now we know that is not true. And it holds very true for many of the foods we eat. Toxins in the form of preservatives, hormones, pesticides and other chemicals do cross that barrier, and often the result is dementia, ADHD, depression, anxiety, insomnia, brain fog, memory loss, autism and more... Simple Nutrient Gives You Bones of Steel By: Al Sears, MD
Dear Health-Conscious Reader,
Mainstream medicine has missed the boat on this one. You're constantly warned about the danger of high-protein diets. And this is the worst part. They tell you that the reason you have to avoid a high-protein diet is that it weakens your bones. The truth is the exact opposite. High protein strengthens your bones. I always knew this to be true. Now I've just run across some very interesting proof. There's a study that came out in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that shows that people who had adequate calcium and high protein intakes had the highest bone densities.(1) It finally proved to the naysayers that when you eat more protein, it helps your body absorb more calcium. This makes perfect sense. Think about our native ancestors: They ate a diet consisting mostly of animal proteins and had strong bones. And they did it without medications, calcium supplements or drugs. I've seen hundreds of patients strengthen their bones from adding simple nutrients like protein to their diets. It's the way nature intended for you to eat. Your bones are complex. They're comprised of dynamic living tissue that changes and adapts to the demands your body puts on it. A number of nutrients, including protein, are essential to helping make your bones stronger. And there's more... Boosting protein also helps increase growth factors in your body that boost muscle strength, skeletal integrity, and even speed up the healing of your bones.2 In fact, if your body doesn't have enough protein, it can result in softer, flexible bones. It can lead to osteoporosis, and even make it difficult for you to get around later in life... Read More..._____________________________________________

Conquer Failing Vision Without Surgery
Each of us comes equipped with an amazing pair of optical wonders that employ technology light years ahead of any optical system. Even the Hubble telescope, which looks far out into distant galaxies, pales in comparison to the technology of the eye. In any optical system, nothing is seen unless light is first brought into the pictures. Vision starts with light rays bouncing off nearby objects and blasting our cornea. The pupil then regulates how much of that light makes its way into the eye. As passage is granted, light continues its journey through a gelatinous mass known as the vitreous humor, which, with laser-like precision, guides light to the retina. This is where the conundrum of photons (light) is corralled and converted into electrical signals, allowing the brain to know what's in our surroundings. You can thank a complex set of photo-receptors within the retina for this interpretation. They receive and record pictures and video better than any camcorder. Photo-receptors come in two varieties, cones and rods, and each has a different function. Six million or so cones record color vision in bright light, and about 125 million rods record black-and-white vision in dim light. They're sensitive enough to respond to even a single photon coming from a faint star at night. The light information gathered by the cones and rods is transmitted via the optic nerve to the brain where it is decoded and processed into patterns to define the world around us. Without it, we would plow through red lights, wear clothes that don't match, and miss out on life's beauty, detail, and subtlety. When the amazing eye fails... Dr. Eric Serrano M.D., M.S., B.C.
| Dr. Serrano,
My husband was deficient in protein. This is strange because of the amount of meat he consumes. Now we eat meat at almost every meal. Is it possible for my 10 year old to get too much meat? I hear it can be hard on the liver and kidneys.
Thank You, Lisa
___________________________________________________
Dear Lisa,
You can be deficient in protein even though you are eating it every day. It is not what you eat but what you absorb, and a lot of people have a dysfunctional gastrointestinal (GI) system. One of the biggest reasons for this is that we eat non-organic sources of proteins, plants and other foods that have tons of chemicals that affect our GI. I created a drink called Muscle Synthesis because I was noticing how proteins affect the body. Initially I thought we were not eating enough but later I found out that we are not absorbing it, or actually our GI can't break it down. So then we develop allergies or immuno problems due to those non-digested proteins, and that is why Muscle Synthesis came into existence. Lisa you must fix your husband's digestive problems and I would start with:
- Probiotics. Best are Flora 20/14 by Innate, call (800) 634-6342 and use code SER 030. Or Klaire Complete - www.klaire.com, or call (888) 488-2488. Use code 614.
- A good digestive enzyme by either one of the companies above.
- Free form aminos if necessary, or unable to digest the proteins or if they make his stomach upset. I recommend Muscle Synthesis, you can call Scott at (614) 596-7994.
The myth that protein is hard in your kidneys is old. I have five kids and they all eat protein like it is going out of style.
My kids eat organic red meat provided by US Wellness Meats, eggs from my own farm, goat's milk from my farm, and chicken - all organic. So go ahead and let the kids grow bigger, better brains with protein sources every day. Make sure that your husband is not allergic to certain proteins, and the best way is through Immuno labs in Florida. Good luck,

Kick Starting 15 lbs of Fat Loss in 30 Days!
By: Scott Mendelson
Scott,
My wife and I took a serious look in the mirror and came to the realization that despite eating "healthy" we are both fat! We eat 100% organic and no refined foods, and this has lead to better energy. However, we have both put on body fat by perhaps eating too much and lacking any nutrition/exercise strategy. We are both eager to get on the right track before the New Year so we do not do any more damage. How do we lose 15 lbs of body fat over the next 30 days?
Roy Ohio
______________________________________
Roy, Losing 10-15 lbs of body fat in four weeks is achievable but only if training, nutrition, supplementation and rest are all correctly put together. You are smart to get started now as the holiday season can turn into a fat storage disaster if goals are put off to the New Year. This type of thinking also leads people to make many poor food choices by telling themselves they will just take care of the problem on Jan 1. It does not work that way in reality, as the proper habits needed to be successful take time to develop. I design programs for consultation clients each week for exactly what you are aiming to do with great success. You will need a training routine that activates fat burning hormones by packing more work into gradually less time. This can be accomplished by strategically chopping down rest periods each week while upping the intensity. Apply these strategies to both weight training and interval sprints such as the 10 minute workout mentioned before this column, email Scott@infinityfitness.com for a copy. Increase Intensity for Accelerated Fat LossIntensity is the amount of loading used per rep for the purposes of this article. On average the majority of trainees are not scratching the surface of their potential in this area. Despite popular belief one of the fastest ways to improve body composition is to increase intensity on a weekly basis, but this requires a level of focus and discomfort that some are not willing to put forth until they realize the importance. The approach of adding more work such as extra sets at a low intensity level is not a productive strategy often resulting in over training. Improve Each WeekGoing through the motions is not going to get you to your goals. In other words you are going to have to work hard in the gym to earn the best possible results. You should aim to improve weight loads while maintaining proper form, tempo and following rest periods each week. Even a small weekly increase such as 2.5 lbs can add up to a significant amount over a four week routine. Having a mindset of breaking records from the prior week and keeping accurate training records is a vital element of the process... Read More... ________________________________________

What Our Customers Are Saying

Just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with your service. My order was shipped out on Monday, and I had it in hand (in Alaska) on Tuesday afternoon. It was well packed, and the cooler kept everything frozen. Having never ordered from you before I didn't know what to expect, but I wasn't expecting the exceptional service I received. With the cooler, I won't have to worry if the weather delays the box for an extra day or if I can't get right to unloading the box. Also, I so appreciate the same shipping costs for Alaska as for other states. I know shipping here is more expensive, and most companies take advantage of that and gouge us for shipping costs. I tried my first product last night and enjoyed the flavor of the meat. I will be telling others about your products. Thanks so much, Patty
