This interesting quiz on WebMD offers some insights on this powerful fat loss tool and suggestions on how to speed yours up! It seems like every year the holiday season is more stressful, which shouldn't be the case. It should be a time to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends and to remember the real reason for the season. If you need some help fighting the holiday stress, check out Dr. Sears' article below. He offers some great ways to fight stress any time of year without medication. Within that article you will find a five-letter promo code that will save you 15% on your next order under 40 lbs - another stress reliever! Feel free to use that code to stock up on New Year's Eve party essentials - shrimp, kabobs, and snacks! Speaking of New Year's - there is still plenty of time to have your order delivered before then, just make sure your order is placed before 10:00 CST Wednesday, December 28 and it will ship this week. FedEx will be closed Monday, December 26th and Monday, January 2nd so we won't be able to ship either of those days. We will ship on Tuesday and Wednesday as usual. As we begin to think about resolutions and how we are going to improve in 2012, we're sure we all have friends that will start their usual "diet" to kick off the new year. They'll start counting calories and watching fat intake. Before they do that to themselves, you might want to share this article. It explains in new terms why sugar (and heavy carbs) makes us tired, and why protein "wakes us up", and the effects both have on our bodies. It will give new meaning to their "diet", and that bowl of cereal they were planning on having in the morning. Restocked! One of our favorite steaks - the versatile Minute Steak restocked this week and is a great value for the money. Each package contains four 6-ounce steaks, for a great recipe with hearty mushroom sauce see our recipe section below. Holiday Regards,

Green Tea Helps Mice Keep Off Extra Pounds
Green tea may slow down weight gain and serve as another tool in the fight against obesity, according to Penn State food scientists. Obese mice that were fed a compound found in green tea along with a high-fat diet gained weight significantly more slowly than a control group of mice that did not receive the green tea supplement, said Joshua Lambert, assistant professor of food science in agricultural sciences. "In this experiment, we see the rate of body weight gain slows down," said Lambert. The researchers, who released their findings in the current online version of Obesity, fed two groups of mice a high-fat diet. Mice that were fed Epigallocatechin-3-gallate - EGCG - a compound found in most green teas, along with a high-fat diet, gained weight 45 percent more slowly than the control group of mice eating the same diet without EGCG.
"Our results suggest that if you supplement with EGCG or green tea you gain weight more slowly," said Lambert. In addition to lower weight gain, the mice fed the green tea supplement showed a nearly 30 percent increase in fecal lipids, suggesting that the EGCG was limiting fat absorption, according to Lambert. "There seems to be two prongs to this," said Lambert. "First, EGCG reduces the ability to absorb fat and, second, it enhances the ability to use fat." The green tea did not appear to suppress appetite. Both groups of mice were fed the same amount of high-fat food and could eat at any time. "There's no difference in the amount of food the mice are eating," said Lambert. "The mice are essentially eating a milkshake, except one group is eating a milkshake with green tea." A person would need to drink ten cups of green tea each day to match the amount of EGCG used in the study, according to Lambert. However, he said recent studies indicate that just drinking a few cups of green tea may help control weight. "Human data - and there's not a lot at this point - shows that tea drinkers who only consume one or more cups a day will see effects on body weight compared to nonconsumers," said Lambert. Lambert, who worked with Kimberly Grove and Sudathip Sae-tan, both graduate students in food science, and Mary Kennett, professor of veterinary and biomedical sciences, said that other experiments have shown that lean mice did not gain as much weight when green tea is added to a high fat diet. However, he said that studying mice that are already overweight is more relevant to humans because people often consider dietary changes only when they notice problems associated with obesity. "Most people hit middle age and notice a paunch; then you decide to eat less, exercise and add green tea supplement," said Lambert. The National Institutes of Health supported this work. Penn State. How To Beat The Hidden Effects Of Modern Stress By: Al Sears, MD
Dear Health-Conscious Reader, Today I want to talk to you about something that can benefit every part of your body from your heart to your brain and even your sex hormones. Most doctors won't tell you about it, but when it's working right, you'll: - feel more energized
- have a positive frame of mind
- better concentration
- sleep soundly
- eliminate mood swings
- think more clearly
- have fewer food cravings
- maintain a healthy weight
The problem is, the modern world causes you to overuse it. Your ancestors had only brief periods of stress, lasting a few minutes at a time. Today, you are constantly being assaulted by stressors that can last for days, or years. But your body wasn't built for that. The system your body uses to deal with stress - your adrenal system - didn't evolve to be in a constant state of "fight or flight." And that's why we have the modern problem of what I call "adrenal burnout." The solution to adrenal burnout involves returning to some of the practices of your ancestors, and I'll tell you what those are in a bit. But first, let me ask you; does your day go something like this?
- You don't really seem to "wake up" until midmorning, even though you've been awake since early.
- You get a little sleepy and "foggy" in the early afternoon.
- You have a burst of energy around and after dinner.
- You get sleepy around 9, but you resist going to bed.
- You experience a kind of second wind, but then can't get to sleep until after midnight.
In between you crave salty foods. You don't have much energy throughout the day. You're a little lightheaded when you stand up, get up from your desk, or get out of your car. Your muscles feel weaker than they used to. You sigh a lot. If this sounds anything like what you experience each day, you're not alone. Far from it... Six Delicious Tips to Take 20 Years Off Your Appearance!
By: Kelley Herring
When you look in the mirror, do you see soft, supple, glowing, blemish-free skin? Or are you starting to notice sagging, wrinkles and discoloration?
Unfortunately, the first signs of aging begin on the most visible of places: our faces. And those laugh lines, crow's feet, and dreaded "elevens" are the not-so-graceful hints that we're just not as young as we used to be.
But before you spend big bucks for that supposed "miracle in a jar" or schedule an appointment for that chemical peel or dermal filler, consider giving yourself an internal facelift... with your diet!
Along with the conventional wisdom of not smoking, protecting your skin from the elements, staying hydrated, getting enough (beauty) sleep and using a natural moisturizer, research shows that the best way to keep your skin supple and smooth... is from the inside out.
Here are six easy tips to turn back the clock with nutrition (and boost your health to boot).
Tip #1: Ban Sugar to Keep Your Skin Elastic (and Fantastic!)
Eating sugar in any form, whether it's a sugar laden-dessert, sweetened sodas, or even high-carb, grain-based foods like bread and cereal, boosts your blood sugar levels, triggering inflammation at the cellular level. And that's not just bad news for your health, it can be really damaging for your skin too.
In fact, Dr. Nicholas Perricone, M.D., author of The Perricone Prescription, believes that about 50% of skin aging is due to the glycation process - when sugar molecules attach to collagen cells in response to a spike in blood sugar. This process is called cross-linking and it damages the structural proteins that keep your skin supple and smooth. In fact, collagen is so important to the structure and integrity of your skin, that it has been called the skin's "scaffolding."
Avoid glycation (and the wrinkles that go along with it) by focusing your diet on low glycemic foods. And when the sweet tooth strikes, sweeten naturally with sugar free sweeteners like stevia and erythritol. You'll find lots of deliciously sweet, low glycemic recipes in my book Guilt Free Desserts.

Dr. Eric Serrano MD, MS, BC
| Dr. Serrano,
Can you tell me if taking curcumin/ginger supplement can irritate the lining of your stomach? I was nearly hospitalized this week from stomach pain and was diagnosed as having the stomach lining inflamed.
I have been having stomach pains off and on, which include nighttime acid reflux if I eat or have coffee after 6 pm. I have had all day stomach aches from eating a 12-inch flatbread breakfast sandwich at subway on more than one occasion. (possible gluten intolerance?) I eat a lot of peppers, hot sauce, garlic supplements, 4-5 cups of coffee per day, etc. I am 55 and very healthy/active.
The doctor told me to stop taking all of my organic supplements and watch what I eat until this subsides.
Thank You, James
______________________________________________________
Dear James,
It is important for you to stop what you are doing - self destruction. Your problem is not the supplements, but your lifestyle and what you are eating. Your curcumin/ginger drink probably didn't do it, but I don't know what brand or which one you were taking. If I was going to consume a ginger/curcumin drink I would use Chriss Roney Drink which is awesome - all natural and it works, call him at (217) 649-9306 and tell him I sent you and he might be able to help.
The four top reasons for reflux inflammation in your stomach, are
- Stress
- Coffee - biggest culprit and not supposed to have at night
- Food irritation by dairy, wheat, peanuts, high protein or soda
- Lack of acid or too much acid, which is rare but possible
- Infection
I am 49 years old and I feel great, I eat organic from US Wellness, exercise three times a week with weights only, relax with my kids and my German shepherds and work, and never had an ulcer problem except when deviating from my diet for long periods of time which kills my stomach.
Keep eating you peppers, garlic as seasoning agents, and change your eating habits, and start a supplement program, with good vitamins, alpha omega-3 from Scott, and a good anti-stress supplement like fat Innate Adrenal or from Standard Process Drenamin.
Good luck & Merry Christmas,

Burn 15 lbs of Body Fat in 30 days While Firming Up The Backside
By: Scott Mendelson
Scott,
The body fat just piles on to my backside during the holidays and my legs are so weak to begin with, I have no muscle from years of sitting at a desk I guess. My doctor suggested I use some functional lower body training to help lower body fat and prevent injury. What do you suggest to fight the fat and firm up the backside?
Suzie
____________________________________________
Suzie,
Women have a higher density of fat storage receptors in the lower body while men more so in the mid section. Yes the holidays offer a lot of bad food choice availability which activates these fat storage receptors, making it a very dangerous time of year. The nutrition plan can be less than perfect while preventing body fat accumulation if you play your cards right with cheat meal strategies and exercise. You can eat like crazy on Christmas day and not do any damage by way of fat storage with the correct strategy. Email scott@infinityfitness.com for the Preventing the Holiday 15 lbs of Body Fat Accumulation special report. You are very smart to exercise throughout the holidays to build momentum into the New Year. Those who simply seek to "maintain" during the holidays end up packing on body fat quickly. The keys to success will be proper diet, interval cardio training and weight training geared to fat loss.
Many people approach me wanting to lose ten pounds of body fat in a month, all well and good pending the starting body fat levels, but I push for fifteen pounds of body fat loss in 30-60 days while boosting energy! Best of all my clients keep the body fat off permanently without being on a "diet" for the rest of their lives.
It sounds like there has not been a cohesive strategy in the past which would account for making no progress or even regressing. Exercise and nutrition factors must change strategically to keep progress going! My clients avoid plateaus by having the right program designs which FORCE the body to use more stored fat as fuel through many pathways. Repeating methods that have not worked for you in the past is madness, yet I see so many people do what they are "comfortable" with and as a result they fail.
Weight Training is Highly Effective for PERMANENT Fat Loss!
Let's bust some myths - weight training is not only for men! Furthermore, weight training correctly for fat loss, not bodybuilding, will prevent any unwanted accumulation of excess muscle mass. In a majority of cases females use body building-oriented routines that do not align with their goals. I structure routines to torch body fat! There are many factors to consider when building programs, which is why I consistently collect data from clients to ensure that the proper refinements can be made thus preventing any progress plateaus. A combination of high intensity along with short rest periods creates a fat burning wild fire by elevating fat burning hormones for many hours following the training session. Anyone seeking to lose body fat is crazy for not employing a high density fat burning plan...

Customer Feedback |
Hi USWM - I just wanted to send a note to let YOU know how much we like your beef. We are on a budget, but want nutritious meat products for our 12 month old. Your ground beef is fabulous and, literally, melts in your mouth! It tastes so wonderful and makes us feel so good eating it. We have also tried the sandwich steaks for a quick dinner and, although is quick, is most yummy too! What's also amazing about your beef is how easy it is to cook for both me and my husband. I'm so glad I found your website because we cannot get good quality food where we live in Wyoming. Thus, it has been a blessing to have found you! I am also on the mend from a rough start following the birth of my daughter and look forward to trying your broth!!! Our dog just started on your doggie beef, and his anxious tendencies after he eats (like he's still hungry) are gone and his weight is improving (we've been struggling to keep his weight up). We are all healing! Thank you, thank you!!!! Sincerely, Wendy Eaton

Cube Steak with Mushroom Sauce
Ingredients:
Directions:
- Place minute steaks between sheets of wax paper or plastic wrap. Using flat side of mallet, pound meat until about double in size.
- Heat oil and 1 tablespoon of the butter in wide frying pan. Add steaks and brown quickly on both sides.
- Place browned steaks on warm serving dish and keep warm. Add remaining butter to pan. Add mushrooms and cook quickly over high heat until browned.
- Pour over steaks on platter. By this time, steaks may have "wept" juices on to the plate. Drain them into frying pan and heat to boiling.
- Whisk in the mustard and broth and drippings. Boil hard over high heat; scraping up brownings, until juices are reduced to shiny glaze.
- Pour over steak and mushrooms; add salt, pepper, and garnish.
This hearty, cold-weather recipe is courtesy of Cooks.com - a great resource for recipe ideas for any cut of meat!
