Dear John,
It's been a heat wave in the Midwest this week.
We've seen 30 degrees for the first time in weeks, which is a welcome change. We hope all of our neighbors in the Southeast are making it
through another round of harsh winter weather, and we want to remind everyone that there are only 33 more days until spring!
Ever
heard of ketones? What about the ketogenic diet? It is certainly not a new fad diet, the ketogenic diet has been
around for centuries, and is likely how some of our ancestors thrived. Be sure to read Kelley Herring's article below for easy ways to increase your state of
ketosis, which in turn can help deep clean your cells, protect your brain, and help you get lean!
Looking for an easy dinner
idea? Look no further. Our
Pre-Cooked Pot Roast is
on sale this week
only, and is one of our winter favorites. It is fully cooked, and already includes gravy and healthy herbs, all you have to do is heat &
serve. The flavor is fantastic, it even makes great leftovers!
Have you tried our new
Duck Stock yet? Made with the same recipe as our
Chicken stock, the duck has a very rich flavor and can be incorporated into any recipe that calls for chicken stock. It can also be sipped
straight as a very healthy drink!

The Truth Is Not In Their Drug
By: Al Sears, MD
You may have heard about some of testosterone's benefits in ads and
commercials... that it can give you back speed, strength and vitality. And it can restore lost drive and libido. But you probably
didn't hear this until recently. Why? Because they created a testosterone drug. When I started helping men boost their
testosterone naturally over 20 years ago, there was always a presumption that I was putting men at risk. Back then, you couldn't find
a physician who didn't think, "Well, yeah, testosterone... you could use it but everyone knows it's dangerous and causes heart attacks." Everyone presumed that men have higher rates of heart disease and heart attack than women do, and they have higher testosterone, so it must be
from that. We later found out that neither presumption was true. In the first place, men didn't have higher rates of heart disease,
they were just heavier smokers. That made men appear like they had more heart disease. In fact when women started to smoke more and we did
studies on that, we found that women have more heart disease than men. Secondly, we found there is not a positive association between
testosterone and heart disease but an inverse one...

Build a Healthier Brain and a Leaner Body with these
"Dangerous" Compounds
By: Kelley Herring, Healing Gourmet
Have you heard
of compounds called "ketones"? If so, it was probably due to their controversial nature. In fact, many believe these compounds to be
dangerous and unhealthy. But as you are about to discover, ketones can be nothing short of "miraculous" for the health of your brain and even
reversing Alzheimer's disease. These compounds were popularized by Dr. Robert Atkins in the 1990's for their profound effects on
weight loss. And while ketones do have an impressive ability to help your body torch through fat, these molecules have been maligned by modern
medicine. This is due to a state of extreme ketones in the blood, called "ketoacidosis." The truth is that while this condition
is dangerous, it is extremely rare and only occurs in Type 1 diabetics who are not regulating their insulin levels properly. For the
rest of us, ketones are a very, very good thing. But what are ketones anyway?

Study Examines Consumption of Added Sugar, Death from
Cardiovascular Disease
Many U.S. adults consume more added sugar (added in processing or preparing of foods, not
naturally occurring as in fruits and fruit juices) than expert panels recommend for a healthy diet, and consumption of added sugar was associated
with increased risk for death from cardiovascular disease (CVD), according to a study published by JAMA Internal Medicine, a JAMA
Network publication. Recommendations for added sugar consumption vary and there is no universally accepted threshold for unhealthy
levels. For example, the Institute of Medicine recommends that added sugar make up less than 25 percent of total calories, the World Health
Organization recommends less than 10 percent, and the American Heart Association recommends limiting added sugars to less than 100 calories daily
for women and 150 calories daily for men, according to the study background. Major sources of added sugar in Americans' diets are
sugar-sweetened beverages, grain-based desserts, fruit drinks, dairy desserts and candy. A can of regular soda contains about 35g of sugar (about
140 calories). Quanhe Yang, Ph.D., of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, and colleagues used national health
survey data to examine added sugar consumption as a percentage of daily calories and to estimate association between consumption and CVD. Study results indicate that the average percentage of daily calories from added sugar increased from 15.7 percent in 1988-1994 to 16.8
percent in 1999 to 2004 and decreased to 14.9 percent in 2005-2010. In 2005-2010, most adults (71.4 percent) consumed 10 percent of
more of their calories from added sugar and about 10 percent of adults consumed 25 percent or more of their calories from added sugar. The authors note the risk of death from CVD increased with a higher percentage of calories from added sugar. Regular consumption of
sugar-sweetened beverages (seven servings or more per week) was associated with increased risk of dying from CVD. "Our results support
current recommendations to limit the intake of calories from added sugars in U.S. diets," the authors conclude.

Peak Motivation to Burn 20 Pounds of Fat with Eye Opening Before Pictures!
By: Scott Mendelson
Scott,
This has been the worst winter I can ever remember and it has made it hard to
stay focused on my goals to lose 15-20 pounds of fat for an April tropical vacation. I would like to improve my arm definition as I seem to
have added some stubborn fat!

Cheryl, Take some pictures of yourself from the front, back and side in your
bathing suit that you can print out to put in a few spots to see often. Be prepared, as every time I have clients go through this
procedure, the pictures are a real eye opener, especially from the side and back since these are areas we cannot see well without the use of
pictures. You have set goals that are both specific and time sensitive which is great. Attaching strategies for achieving your goals
to the goal sheet is very important and will be the subject of a future article. If You Do Not Like What You SeeIt is perfectly normal to see the pictures and become upset, and in some cases pretty angry. Use this energy to fuel your
motivation and this will drive consistency. Put the pictures on your bathroom mirror, on your fridge, next to your desk where they can
serve as a constant reminder of the importance of your goals. A quick glimpse at the picture daily will add a great deal of fuel to your
