Dear
John,
As we ring in
2014 we want to thank you for your continued readership, patronage and support over the last 13 years.
We have big goals in place for 2014 and if you have any changes or suggestions now is the time to let us
know. We always appreciate your feedback!
2013 was a very busy year here at US
Wellness Meats. We topped 25,000 fans on
Facebook, and are quickly on our way to 30,000 - thank you to all of our fans! Our
staple items, the
75% Lean Ground Beef and the
85% Lean Ground Beef continue to top our
Best Seller list. After removing the sugar from
our pork bacon, the
Sugar-Free Pork Bacon is coming in a close third. We are very proud
of the new items we added this year -
Pork Rinds,
French Ribeyes,
Wild Maine Lobster and
Pekin Duck, as
all have proven very popular. We are continuing to work on packaging and supply issues - look for more
availability in our chicken and pork departments in 2014.
We love hearing from happy pet owners,
like Lynda in our Customer Comments section below. If your pet's diet is lacking
healthy fat, it could be hurting his health. Our
Pet Burger is one of our best selling products and has proven very popular
among both dogs and cats. Some of our new
pet products such as
Beef Tripe,
Ground Chicken Backs (on sale this week!), and
Duck Necks are quickly becoming favorites of some of our beloved pets here
at US Wellness!
What's your pet's favorite food? We'd love to know! We'll be
featuring pet pictures and stories in our Customer Comments throughout the year if you want to
share.
If you are looking for easy winter dinner ideas, look no further than the
Pre-Cooked Pot Roast. This is a favorite of US Wellness staffers -
the tender grass-fed beef roast comes packaged with gravy and five healthy herbs, all you have to do is
leave in the crockpot for a few hours on low heat - and dinner is served. They are
on sale this week only, and will quickly become a
winter favorite for your family.
We want to extend best wishes for a happy and healthy new
year to all of our friends, customers, readers, producers, staff and family reading this week. We hope
your 2014 is off to a great start!
Happy
New Year,
John, Lee Ann, Tressa, Jennifer, Amanda & Laura on behalf of the farm
families of US Wellness Meats.

Big Pharma's Phony Heart Drug Failure
By: Al Sears,
MD
Get this: Big Pharma giant Merck has
been trying to re-package one of Nature's most potent heart health allies and sell it to you as a heart
"drug." They heavily lobbied the FDA to get it approved in the U.S. But a few weeks ago they had
to pull it from the approval process.1 Why? Because their drug didn't quite have the effect they
wanted it to. In a clinical trial, they gave half the people this new drug - a combination of a
synthetic form of a vitamin and a synthetic molecule that reduces facial "flushing." The other half got only
a statin drug. They wanted the combination of statins and their new drug to work ... but it
didn't go so well. In fact, Merck suggested the side effects were worse than expected. I'll
say. What they don't tell you in any of their press releases is that people taking only the new
"drug" had skin and stomach side effects and experienced flushing. On top of that, when they
added a statin to the mix, people got myopathy which is nonfunctional and painful muscles, and
rhabdomyolysis which is the painful disintegration of muscles.2 These are typical statin side effects. So what was in the new "drug" Merck was trying to create?

The Memory Thief in
Your Morning Meal
By: Kelley Herring, Healing
Gourmet
According to a recent Harris Interactive study, there is something that
people fear more than cancer and even death: Dementia. The inability to recall fond memories, use reasoning and logic, or even recognize the faces of the
people you love is a disturbing thought. It's a fate that most of us would do anything to avoid. Yet, for more than five million Americans and their families, this is a reality of day to day life. And
unfortunately, dementia and Alzheimer's disease are on the rise. Between 2000 and 2010, deaths
from Alzheimer's disease increased 68 percent! According to
the Alzheimer's Association, an average of one American is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease every 68
seconds. By 2050, it's estimated that two people will be diagnosed with this disease every minute of every
day. But there is good news... Alzheimer's is not a genetic disease. It is a
degenerative condition that is not a normal part of healthy aging. It can definitely be prevented and in
some cases the symptoms can even be reversed. And the answer to protecting your mind and your
memories lies in your diet...

Modest Weight
Loss May Reduce Heart Disease, Diabetes Risks in Middle-Aged Women
Modest weight loss over 2 years in overweight or obese,
middle-aged women may reduce risk factors for heart disease and diabetes, according to new research
published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
In a study of 417 women participating in weight loss programs for up
to 24 months, those who sustained a 10 percent or more loss of their body weight for two years reduced their
total cholesterol, LDL "bad" cholesterol, HDL "good" cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin, glucose and
inflammation markers. Women who had the highest levels of risk at the start of the study benefited the most
from modest weight loss.
"It is challenging to
lose weight, but if women commit to losing 10 percent of their body weight and sustain that over time, it
can have a large impact on overall risk factors associated with heart disease and diabetes," said Cynthia A.
Thomson, Ph.D., R.D., co-author and Professor in the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health and
Director of the University of Arizona Canyon Ranch Center for Prevention & Health Promotion in Tucson.
The women, an average 44 years old and weighing
nearly 200 pounds at the start of the study, were recruited within the communities of the University of
California, San Diego; University of Minnesota; University of Arizona; and Kaiser Permanente Center
Northwest in Portland, Ore.
Factors that may
affect creeping weight gain in middle-aged women include sedentary jobs, repeated pregnancy and the
transition to menopause. In the end, a large percent of middle-aged American women find themselves weighing
much more in their forties than they weighed in their teens, Thomson said
Women in short-term weight loss programs usually do better with
weight loss in the first six months and then they start to rebound, researchers said.
"Our study revealed the need for healthcare providers to provide
women with longer-term support for weight control. It seems to pay off in terms of modifying risk factors
for obesity-related disease," Thomson said.
"The good news is that when you lose weight long-term, you just don't move to a smaller dress
size, you are actually moving these risk factors markedly and likely reducing your risk of heart disease and
diabetes," Thomson said.

middle-aged women." ScienceDaily, 18 Dec. 2013. Web. 26 Dec. 2013.

Rapid Fat Loss Goal Setting and Achievement
By: Scott Mendelson
Scott,
My wife and I are committed this year to
reaching the best shape of our lives, however previously while earning good progress for the first couple of
months, the periods following were not as productive -leaving us well short of our goals. Specifically I
want a six pack and my wife wants to reduce the body fat in the buttocks and upper leg area.
What goal setting and achievement strategies do you suggest to clients to finally reach life-long goals?
Mark and Wendy
Houston TX
_____________________________________________
Mark & Wendy, Your rate of success will come
down to consistently executing the right tasks for an extended period of time to build metabolic and
hormonal momentum. Your lack of success following the first couple of months of your prior routine
indicates that the training and nutrition program became stale and ultimately ineffective. Repeating
those tactics would be planning to fail! You and Wendy will earn fantastic fat loss progress over the
short and long term when you improve the quality of your training sessions by implementing the tips from our
new
blog post. Get Specific and Ditch Your ScaleYour goals need to be measurable which
is why I would conduct a body fat percentage test every 6-8 weeks by calipers (expertise needed), Dexa Scan,
Bod Pod or Hydrostatic Under Water Weighing. The scale does not provide an accurate measure of
progress because it does not account for lean muscle tissue. Losing muscle is the quickest way to
higher body fat levels by reducing the size of the calorie burning engine. We ask clients for pictures from
the front, back and side on the same day as the body fat percentage tests to further gauge progress.
To show off a great six pack you will need to get your body fat percentage between 10 and 12%. Based
on the pictures you sent with your profile, your current body fat percentage is 25-27% which may be a real
eye opener; however you can use this reality to build up motivation levels...

Spicy Brown

- 1 Tbsp Cinnamon, ground
- 1 tsp
Salt

- 1/10 fl oz Fish Sauce, (about 5 drops)
Directions:
- Cut ribs into 4-5 bone portions. If possible, remove the silver skin from the underside of the

- Bring a large pot of water to boil, and parboil ribs for 30 minutes.
- While
ribs are cooking, assemble glaze. Whisk together coconut aminos, fish sauce, minced garlic and salt in a

the glaze, then sprinkle with paprika and cinnamon.
- Place ribs meat side down on the hot
grill. Allow ribs to sear for a few minutes.
- Flip ribs, and move them to a cooler part of the

- Cut into
individual portions, and serve.
