Dear John,
Obesity is an epidemic that has been sweeping the nation for years, with sadly no signs of slowing. Some of that can be contributed to the sedentary lifestyles of many Americans who have to sit behind a desk or in a cubicle on a daily basis. Many companies are now giving their employees the opportunity to switch to standing, walking, biking, or other type of workstations. We are lucky that US Wellness Meats is one of those companies! So we took notice when a new study was released recently about the benefits of walking workstations, which is featured in our news section below. If you have any questions about mobile workstations feel free to email us anytime, we are very happy with ours!

Should You Stop Using Your Computer?
By: Al Sears, MD
When I went to Malaysia, I really started to notice this... In Malaysia, which most people think is a backwater, developing, jungle-covered, rural country... they all have iPhones. The first iPhone wasn't around until 2007. And now smartphones dominate places as far away as Malaysia. When I went there, I saw them all use their iPhones to take pictures then post them on Facebook. The name is a verb now. They say, "Facebook me" instead of "call me" or "e-mail me." It's a great thing that technology is spreading worldwide, and it's spreading so fast and it has so much improved efficiency. It's helping improve lives and economic opportunity. But along with this incredible technology comes some of the problems I've been writing to you about. Issues with heart health and brain health and premature aging and the inappropriate use and abuse of technology. For example, our favorite tech toys like smartphones and tablets give off ultraviolet light that goes directly into our eyes. Those lights are also in LED screens like your TV and computer. Why is that important? Because UVB light from these devices, which is in the "blue light" spectrum, can damage your eyes when you get too much of it. That's why I'm writing to you today. I'm going to show you ways you can protect your eyes from getting too much UVB radiation blue light, so you don't have to worry about using this incredible new technology. Here's what you need to know... Continue Reading...

Could the Fruits and Veggies You Love be Destroying Your Health?
By: Kelley Herring, Healing Gourmet
Onions, garlic, apples, asparagus, sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts... These colorful fruits and vegetables would appear to be the foundation of a healthy diet. But is it possible that they could also cause digestive distress and other disorders for some people? The answer may surprise you. According to recent research, the foods listed above (among others) may contribute to painful and embarrassing "functional gut disorders" including bloating, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and diarrhea. The reason is FODMAPS, an acronym for Fermentable, Oligo-, Di- and Mono-saccharides and Polyols. What are FODMAPS? This group of compounds is found in a wide variety of foods, ranging from berries to buttermilk. Each one can have a distinct effect on the digestive system. Let's take a look... Continue Reading...

Walking Workstations Improve Physical, Mental Health, Builds Healthier Workplace
Walking workstations can improve not only physical, but also mental health during the workday, a new study released this week found. The research was conducted by faculty and student researchers from the Department of Psychology in the School of Science at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). With growing concerns regarding obesity in the United States, Michael Sliter, assistant professor of psychology, hopes the study encourages employers to examine methods to assist workers in in healthy living. "We found that the walking workstations, regardless of a person's exercise habits or body mass index (BMI), had significant benefits," Sliter said. "Even if you don't exercise or if you are overweight, you'll experience both short-term physical and psychological benefits." A sample of 180 participants were evaluated on boredom, task satisfaction, stress, arousal, and performance while completing work-related computer tasks across four randomly assigned workstations: seated, standing, cycling or walking. The researchers found walking workstation participants had higher satisfaction and arousal, while experiencing less boredom and stress than the standing and sitting workstation participants. In comparison, the cycling workstation related to reduced satisfaction and performance. The paper " Workout at work: Laboratory Test of Psychological and Performance Outcomes of Active Workstations," which Sliter wrote entirely while using a walking workstation, appears online in the American Psychological Association's Journal of Occupational Health Psychology and in the January 2015 print edition. Sliter plans to continue exploring the psychological benefits of walking workstations in future studies. Particularly, he is interested in examining long-term psychological and physical benefits of such workstations. Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis School of Science. Finish the Year 10 pounds Leaner and Stronger Instead of Packing on Fat During the Holidays!
By: Scott Mendelson
Scott,
October through the end of the year has been a complete disaster for my nutrition plan as well as the rest of the family during prior years. We need a simple training and nutrition plan that will work fast which I find keeps everyone motivated. I must take the lead as I prepare most of the meals. My husband and I put on at least 15 pounds of fat each during this time period last year. The cold weather up here in Minnesota has taken away our favorite outdoor activities.

Susan, Your family must remain active with fat burning exercise activities to support high energy levels and proper food choice consumption. A majority of Americans pack on 10-20 pounds of body fat during the last few months of the year. There is strong relationship between diet and exercise driving the consistency of execution of both key factors. I agree that the nutrition plan must be easy to execute to drive a high quality of execution on a daily basis. The KISS Rapid Fat Loss Nutrition plan is so advanced that it is simple! Do Not Self-Medicate with Bad Food ChoicesIn general, proper exercise drives higher energy levels which help clients to avoid "self-medicating" with bad food choices. With the right approach you and your family cannot only prevent body fat accumulation, but also burn fat during the last couple months of the year while still partaking in holiday meals with some rules in place.
