Happy Valentine's Day. Today is the day we celebrate LOVE and those we care most about. It could be argued that love is the most powerful of emotions, it moves us, inspires us, challenges us, and changes us. It energizes, heals and makes us feel good. Today in honor of Valentine's Day, make an effort to tell someone you love why they are so special to you.
This week both of our articles share more on the importance of real food diets that include the unique benefits of grass-fed meats and a variety of high quality vegetables. Kelley Herring shares how food choices can influence mood swings and depression, while Dr. Sears reinforces how daily protein intake is essential for the health of every single cell in our bodies. Remember to retrieve the 15% off red letter discount code embedded in his article! We have a new item for our store Spinach and Feta Turkey Sausage with Pine Nuts. You'll love these delicious sausages made from pure ground turkey seasoned to perfection. They are gluten free, have no artificial ingredients, preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, or growth stimulants.
In the Recipe Corner you'll find a flavorful recipe for Harissa-Marinated Steak that can be used with sale item Top Sirloin Butt Steak, our featured Customer Feedback Beef Coulotte Steak, or any cut of steak that you prefer.

"Cutting Back on Protein Reckless Advice"
They're at it again. The USDA issued new 2016 dietary guidelines for Americans.
And get this...They tell teenage boys and men to cut back on protein foods, like meat, poultry and eggs.
That's dangerous advice that messes with nature.
You see, the first humans were meat-eaters. Our primal ancestors adapted to thrive on meat as a healthy source of protein and fat. And early humans never suffered from diabetes, heart disease or obesity.

"OMG, Probably One Of The Best!"
These steaks are simply amazing. Pure beef, limited fat. Great taste, juicy and tender. Not badly priced either. Never heard of Coulotte Steaks and wasn't really sure what to do with them, but thought I'd give them a try. Ended up just putting them in the skillet with some seasoning and it was so simple, easy and most of all tasty. Buying again.

Why can't you just be happy?Stop dwelling on things and get on with life. Be grateful for what you have. Exercise more. Watch some comedy. All of these might be great ideas for beating the blues. But for some of us, it's not that simple. Imagine for a moment that your body wasn't making enough red blood cells. Would you try to meditate those cells into existence? Probably not. It would be more practical (and effective) to include more iron in your diet to make those cells. And the same is true for the neurochemicals in your brain that help lift your mood.

Author: Russ Crandall Serves 2-4
Ingredients:
- 4 large dried Anaheim chilies
- 1 bird's eye chili or piri piri (fresh or dried okay)
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 tsp each salt, cumin, ground coriander seeds, caraway seeds
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2-4 6-10 oz grass-fed steaks (sirloin, ribeye, strip, etc); can use beef or bison also
Directions:
- Soak the chili peppers for 30 minutes in warm water, until soft, then remove the stems and seeds. If you are using a dried bird's eye chili or piri piri you should soak them, too.
- Next, get your other ingredients together. If using a fresh chili like the one I used above, be sure to cut the stem off and remove any seeds you find (use a glove or wash your hands immediately!).
- Next comes the hard part: blend it all together. My handy Magic Bullet worked perfectly.
- Throw it in the fridge (it should keep for a couple of weeks). The flavors will marry much better after a few hours.
- Spoon about 1 tablespoon of harissa onto each steak, and rub it in evenly. Let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
- Grill the steaks on direct, high heat, until cooked to your liking. (about 3 minutes per side for 1" thick steaks for medium or medium rare)
- Let rest for five minutes, then dive in.
Note...
* Harissa is a North African chili sauce, commonly used as a condiment and curry base in Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, and Morocco. Its complex and slightly spicy taste is often compared to a similar Asian sauce, the equally-delicious almighty Sriracha. *The recipe above for harissa is only slightly spicy; to increase the spiciness, add more bird's eye or piri piri chilies. Serve steaks with pickled turnips for an even better dining experience.
