"Eating healthy food fills your body with energy and nutrients.

Imagine your cells smiling back at you and saying: "Thank You!"."

- Karen Salmansohn, American Author

Spring Gardens

Spring has sprung and while we're in the midst of a challenging time, we can have hope that more sunshine and garden fresh fruits and veggies are just around the corner. Spring is the perfect time to start a garden. Whether you're an old pro or a rookie, raising your own produce is extremely rewarding. If you live in the city, try starting with a container garden. These are generally smaller and easier to maintain but can still produce a nice crop. If you have more room, raised beds are an excellent way to maintain control over soil conditions and weeding. This is also a whole lot easier on the back. Whichever option you choose, the rewards are numerous: reduced stress, sunshine, exercise, healthy produce, sense of self-reliance and pride, and sooo much flavor!

Have you ever plucked a ripe tomato or cucumber off the vine? There is literally no comparison when it comes to flavor and nutrition. Since nutrition starts in the soil, raising food in the ground that you cultivate means your in control of what goes in and what comes out. If the soil is depleted, amend with compost to add back in nutrients. Vegetable scraps, banana peels, coffee grounds, egg shells, and even used paper teabags will compost and bring your soil back to life. When you start seeing worms in the dirt, you know you've got something good going. Don't put it off any longer! Roll up your sleeves and get to work. You'll reap the rewards as your food ripens and you get to enjoy the harvest with family and friends. For most areas, it's a great time to plant spinach, kale, snow peas, lettuce, chard, broccoli, radishes and beets. Tomatoes aren't too far behind!

This week, Dr. Mercola discusses the importance of including fermented and gut healthy foods in our diets. US Wellness offers a wide variety of Bones, Healthy Fats, Stocks & Broths, and Special Diet Foods for improved gut health. We've also got a full line of all-natural pre-cooked foods ready to heat and serve!

This little cutey has taken over ranching duties for the day. She's learning the ropes with some of the healthiest, happiest cattle in the US. These cattle near the gulf coast in Alabama have a buffet of nutrient dense, green native grasses to munch throughout the year. Due to a nearly perfect mix of rain and sunshine, the grasses thrive year round. When grazing animals have the opportunity to roam in a natural habitat without the stress of confinement, they are healthy and content.
