There are numerous factors that can contribute to allergies. The human body can react severely to anything that it deems inappropriate, whether it's dust, pollutants, chemicals, contaminants, pollen, dander, poison, medications, and even foods. Some will have drastic reactions that are easier to discern while others will go their whole lives with mild symptoms and never know for sure what causes the irritation. If you've ever wandered into a patch of poison ivy, oak or sumac, you know that the consequences can be extremely uncomfortable. Hikes through the woods can be exhilerating and great exercise, but it's a good idea to stay away from certain 3-leafed plants.
It's estimated that over 30 million Americans have some sort of food allergy. Many more with milder intolerances. Adults can even come down with allergies later in life that never troubled them before. Gut health plays an important role in allergic response. Too many ultra-processed foods, additives, chemicals, and antibiotics can wreak havoc on the immune system. You'll find none of those additives in our foods. If you've developed an allergy or intolerance to a certain food, it's probably a good idea to figure out what it is and avoid it, just like you would avoid poison ivy.
