Herbivores & Omnivores, Who's Who
There are obvious biological differences between herbivores, omnivores and carnivores. Ruminent or cud chewing animals like cattle, sheep, bison, elk and deer are grass eaters. Their digestive systems are specifically equipped to ferment roughage with a unique multi-stage stomach. The natural fermentation process is healthy for this type of animal. If you're wondering just how much cattle enjoy grazing green grasses, see this video of owner John Wood opening a new paddock. The biological process changes though if cud chewing animals are forced onto a grain based diet, resulting in pH levels being more acidic. We see this as even more proof that cows are supposed to eat grass, not grain or commercial feeds. Studies have found this biology to be extremely sensitive and will change when grazing animals spend even a couple of weeks eating grain. The health of the animal can suffer as well when not on a natural diet.
On the other hand, we'd argue that people and pets are equipped to eat meat and veggies. People are generally considered to be omnivores, much like Fido. We tend to be healthier eating meats, fish and veggies. It is nearly impossible to get the right balance of nutrients solely from a vegetarian diet. What does that mean for your pet though? If your pet is currently eating bagged dog food, it might be time to check on those labels. If corn or corn meal is the main ingredient, your friend may not be eating as healthy as they could be. Most veterinarians will advise taking it slow when transitioning to a raw diet for your pet. We have many customers who have made the gradual switch and reported a healthier pet as a result. If you are considering a change, talk to your vet for help in transitioning. A raw meat diet might cost a little bit more, but the health benefits should outweigh those costs in fewer trips to the vet. Fido will be happy you did. We have a category in our store dedicated to our pets. You'll find plenty of variety and options for all-natural raw food and treats. We even have a Raw Pet Food bundle available for automatic shipping weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or bi-monthly.
Product Feature | Why A Raw Paleo Diet Is Right For Your Pet
If you have pets, you probably consider them members of your family. After all, our pets provide companionship, loyalty, entertainment and, of course, unconditional love. Unfortunately, however, the food that most people feed their pets is a recipe for the same chronic diseases that afflict modern humans. While it was previously quite rare, it is now commonplace for domesticated animals to suffer from cancer, diabetes, kidney disease, cataracts, arthritis, IBS, obesity, dental problems, autoimmune illness and more. Virtual Farm Visit
One of the most rewarding things to see on US Wellness farms is how soil biology improves over time with good holistic management. 20+ years of managed grazing works wonders. Our animals absolutely love it too and they're actually a valuable part of the process. Cattle eat the native grasses, trample some into the soil as compost, and deposit their leavings as an all-natural fertilizer. If you'd like to managed grazing in action, take a virtual tour of our farms.
