Ancestral Tendencies
Anyone who loves good food knows that it's not always easy to put down the fork and spoon and take a pass on seconds. A great big juicy steak can bring tears of joy to a meat eater's eyes, but portioning that steak into a couple meals might make more health sense. Sweets taste great, but taking a pass will pay dividends later. Unfortunately, obesity and sedentary lifestyles have caused health problems for millions of Americans.
By most historical accounts, our ancestors went through periods of feast and famine. They ate well when food was plentiful, but those good days were often followed up by not so abundant days of fasting. Dietary staleness wasn't a problem because they ate seasonally adjusted foods that were available. Refrigeration and modern logistics have allowed us to eat the same thing, pretty much every day if we so choose. These modern advancements are fantastic! However, getting in to a dietary rut might not be the best for metabolism. Throwing your body a dietary curveball every once in a while might actually help burn fat and keep your body at peak performance.
There are numerous strategies for maintaining good health. This week, Dr. Mercola examines the effects of eating less, intermittent fasting and cyclical ketosis on metabolism. This combination has worked wonders for some people. Check out his latest article and see if it's right for you.
