Independence Day
Fireworks, parades, grilling, neighborhood parties...it's all part of how we celebrate Independence Day. We should have a big party celebrating independence. Even though we weren't directly involved during the Revolutionary period, our ancestors fought and died on battlefields for our freedom and liberties. We are the recipients of a blessing that too often gets diminished or taken for granted. The American Revolution could easily be classified as a world war. The American colonies, several Native American tribes, Britain, France, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Russia all participated in the war either by fighting, providing supplies and munitions, or both. On September 3, 1783, Great Britain signed the Treaty of Paris, formally recognizing American independence. The war lasted eight years and resulted in an estimated loss of 25,000 lives.
Over 240 years have transpired since our ancestors won this independence for us. Since 1775, our nation has engaged in one of the greatest experiments in history. There have been good times and bad, but we have a country and freedoms worth defending. We celebrate this upcoming Independence Day with an appreciation for the sacrifices to secure liberty — past, and present.
“Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.”
- Thomas Jefferson

Grilling Tips | Grass-Fed Steaks
A grass-fed diet is natural for cows, lamb, and bison, and creates a different chemical composition in the meat than grain-fed animals. For this reason, preparing grass-fed steaks is slightly different than grain-fed. In this article, learn how your grill distributes heat, where the hot spots are, and how to sear the meats to lock in juices and flavor. Browse the US Wellness Blog for various grass-fed steak recipes!
