Memorial Day Grilling
Are you one of the millions of Americans looking forward to a long weekend of grilling, BBQ, or smoking your favorite meats over an open flame? Holidays are an excellent opportunity to enjoy good food and fellowship with family and friends. Our May Featured Chef, Bill Evans of BBQ with Bill, has been sharing some scrumptious recipes for the grill, and if you haven't been able to give them a try yet, this coming weekend is your chance.
While we enjoy the food and festivities, please remember the reason for Memorial Day. We are reminded daily that freedom is not free. Maybe it should be, but it most definitely is not. The multitude of men and women who have sacrificed everything for this fact should be more than enough to give us pause. According to History.com, in May 1868, General John Logan encouraged Americans to hold a day of remembrance for fallen Civil War soldiers. That day was known as Decoration Day. As the years progressed and more wars ensued, the day became known as Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a lone day on the calendar when we're reminded to show our respects and honor the men and women who served and died in all wars. If you know a veteran, we encourage you to offer them your thanks and gratitude for serving our nation.
