Clean It Up!
A new year is a great opportunity to make some positive changes. The first thing we need to do is identify what needs to be cleaned up. We face choices daily regarding diet, nutrition, health, lifestyle, and well-being. Some of these choices are extremely challenging, especially if we are inclined toward a particular "treat" or habit. Literally, too much of anything can be hazardous. For things like tobacco, alcohol, and pharmaceuticals - this makes perfect sense. Consider water, however. Water is something fairly innocuous that our bodies need to survive. If we consume too much water, it can result in all kinds of bad consequences. If we don't consume enough water, we're setting ourselves up for problems. We're always looking for a proper balance. This is never easy. Each of us has unique characteristics and DNA that make us more or less susceptible to certain foods, contaminants, sickness, disease, etc. That means to be healthy, happy, mentally and physically fit, we want to find that balance in as many things as possible and then maintain it to the best of our ability. We have to learn to pay attention to what our bodies tell us. If you notice unusual symptoms, consider what may have changed in your diet or routines. Are you getting enough nourishment, sleep, exercise, and water? Too much of something? This is why an elimination diet like Whole30 makes so much sense. It allows us to reset our bodies to a place where we can get a handle on which direction gives us the best chance to improve our health and well-being - both physical and mental.
