More Than a Big Ball of Gas
Winter months often feel a bit gloomy. It's because sunlight is at a minimum. There are more overcast days in the winter and the days are shorter offering far less light therapy. Some people struggle with depression during the winter months because of this. So, not only does that big ball of gas at the center of the solar system provide us with planetary life, warmth, and light, but it also effects us individually on a personal level too. It's estimated that somewhere around 1 Billion people worldwide suffer from vitamin D deficiency to some degree. The problem is magnified during the winter. But, even during the spring and summer months when sunshine is at its peak, you may be deficient if you work indoors. If that's the case, it's important to make time to be outdoors with the sun on your skin. Our skin makes vitamin D from exposure to sunlight, but we can also take it as a supplement. If you have been on a vegan diet, are taking certain prescription drugs, or have an intestinal disease, you may also be vitamin D deficient. Also, the older we get, the more likely we need more because our bodies aren't as efficient.
Vitamin D has a multitude of benefits and studies continue to uncover more. Vitamin D is vitally important for bone and muscle health in children and adults. It has been studied with regard to cancer prevention, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cognitive diseases. We also know that it helps the body fight off autoimmune diseases, respiratory sicknesses, and reduces the effects of inflammation. Sunshine does all of that...with a little help from the amazing human body. Visit with your family doctor to see if you or someone in your family is deficient. The good news is that if you are, it's inexpensive to fix. A little more sunshine, some more tasty red meats and fatty fish, organ meats, and eggs. If you still can't seem to get enough, consider a good Vitamin D Supplement.
Don't let the winter blahs get you down. If the sunshine peaks out from behind the clouds, get outside to soak it up. In the meantime, enjoy a nice thick, juicy steak or salmon filet for a dose of sunshine.
All the Best, Team USWM

It’s one of the greatest fears of aging…Being struck with a disease that steals your memories, your uniqueness, and eventually, your independence. But I’ll tell you the same thing I tell my patients: Memory loss doesn’t have to be a part of normal aging.

Know Your Farmer
We think it's important to know where food comes from, how it's raised, and who raises it. These are important factors because nutrition (people fuel) starts in the ground not in a laboratory or factory. Our farms are dedicated to being good stewards of the land, air, water, and animals we raise. We were sustainable before sustainable was cool. US Wellness Farms use NO antibiotics, NO GMOs, NO added growth hormones, NO mRNA animal vaccines, NO pesticides, and NO Herbicides. Our foods are all-natural and loaded with quality nutrition.
