Study Up on Fats
For a generation, official guidance told us to avoid all fats and to replace animal fats with margarine and vegetable oils. People were told that animal fats were bad. Some were not fooled by this and continued to use animal fats knowing that our ancestors survived and thrived on these foods. Today, studies show that our ancestors were right all along. Animal fats from grazing animals, along with fat from cold water seafood provide a whole host of health benefits. These are very different from the trans fats found in manufactured hydrogenated vegetable oils which have been linked to inflammation, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. Unfortunately, a recent study suggests that American youth consume a majority of their calories from ultra-processed sources that tend to be heavy with trans fats and hydrogenated oils. The good news is that more and more people are learning about the dangers of ultra-processed foods.
CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) is 2-3 times more abundant in Grass-fed, Grass-finished beef than in conventional beef. CLA helps reduce the risk of cancer. Omega-3s are known to promote heart and brain health, reduce inflammation, and heal the body from various other chronic conditions. CLA and Omega-3s are present in a much higher levels in wild-caught seafood and grass-fed animals like beef, lamb, and bison. The concentration of CLA present depends significantly on what the animals eat. By most estimates, grass-fed and grass-finished beef and dairy can be 300-500% richer in CLA than grain-fed animals. That's significant! This is primarily because grass is what nature intended as a diet for cattle. Grass-fed and finished animals also tend to be happier, healthier, and have not been compromised by antibiotics, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or GMOs. Our farms are dedicated to preserving a legacy of good stewardship and care for our animals, land, and ultimately the food we offer at USWellnessMeats.com

Farmed and Dangerous! By Dr. Sears
I was in my office getting ready to join my staff for a meeting when I overheard it…
“One of Norway’s top scientists calls farmed salmon the most toxic food in the world.”
I immediately asked to see the study. As a regular reader, you know I always recommend wild-caught fish. But what I read in this report surprised even me. As it turns out, farmed salmon is five times more toxic than every other food the researchers tested.
