Eat Healthy on a Budget!
During times of uncertainty, inflationary pressures, and economic distress, it's time to turn to some time honored techniques of the frugal, value conscious shopper. Economic downturns happen and we all go through different seasons in life. Some are great, some not so good. Whether your situation is up or down at the moment, you should still be trying to eat as healthy as possible. That sometimes seems like a challenge, especially when the budget tightens up. If you know the health and nutrition benefits of clean, whole foods over processed and cheap commercial food, then you also know that your food dollar goes further when you choose better quality food. The nutrional value of cheap, processed food is nearly zero, while organically raised, clean, all-natural foods are loaded with nutrients. Processed foods are basically empty calories. They offer some energy, but it burns off quickly and you're left hungrier than before. This is also why Americans struggle with obesity, heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, cancer, etc. It's the hidden risk in a diet heavy in ultra-processed, factory made foods. Factor in potential health consequences and it likely costs more than the price tag suggests.
